Spice and Wolf: A Look into an "Ordinary" Fantasy Life

Calling back to a post I made. Kings, powerful wizards, nation's best fighters, etc, etc.

Kraft Lawrence is a merchant who is nowhere near the 1%. In his standard medieval fantasy setting, he can't even afford his own shop.

Holo is a wisewolf with supernatural abilities. She can shapeshift from a wolf taller than Lawrence, to a human with wolf ears and tail. Her soul lives in wheat. If she chooses, she can help fields grow, or invisibly hop from sheaf to another. She absolutely hates being called a god.

In the forgeground, wheat bends in the wind. In the background is a dark green forest.
Where we first meet Holo

Their relationship is more than alleviating their mutual loneliness. Holo gets more life in a day with him than she did in her fields. Lawrence grows as a person rather than keep his 24 hour merchant brain.

The series is about their travels as they search for her hometown that she hasn't seen in centuries. They need money and supplies, so Lawrence plies his trade as they go. He is also a doom magnet, and the pair get into risky situations. Thankfully, Holo lives up to the "wise" part of being a wisewolf, and Lawrence is also intelligent. While the two do get into physical altercations, more often than not they fight with their wits.
