Epic Fantasy in Six Minutes

I listen to a wide variety of music. Jazz, classic rock, alternative, nerdcore... The list goes on. Over the past couple of years, I have grown a soft spot for Babymetal, a band specializing in heavy metal music with adorable lyrics.

While I knew of them, it was this song, "Metal Kingdom," that made me a fan. I adore speculative fiction of all kinds. "Metal Kingdom," with its instrumentals, vocalizations both verbal and not, condense the intensity and high stakes of a multi-book saga into a single song.

The lyrics themselves are pretty heartening. The setup sounds like the prelude to the final confrontation. Every friend and ally our leads have made slowly gather together. Then the leads deliver a rousing speech, outlining everything that has led to this moment and why the must suceed.

While swords get referenced, they are an accessory. This showdown is about the power of hearts. "We are together," "Believe in your friends," "Our voices." There's no bloodshed, no violence. There's no need. Our characters save the day with no one coming to harm.

The back of a concert venue. fans outlined in shadow raise their arms in celebration. In the distance are the bright blue lights of the stage.
Like this, but more intense

The music video is below. Be careful, there are flashing lights.
